Richard A. Preto-Rodas is professor of Romance Languages and Literatures in the Division of Languages and Linguistics. He teaches undergraduate courses in Portuguese, Spanish, and French and graduate courses in Spanish Golden Age literature, Spanish Romanticism and Realism, French Enlightenment, and Classical Greek Literature in Translation. Dr. Preto-Rodas is the author of Negritude as A Theme in The Literature of the Portuguese-Speaking World (UFlorida Press, 1971 - still in print), Dialogue and Courtly Lore in Renaissance Portugal (UNorth Carolina Press, 1972), (with Alfred Hower) Crônicas Brasileiras: A Portuguese Reader (UFlorida Press, 1972), (with A. Hower) Quarenta Historinhas: An Annotated Portuguese Reader (UFlorida Press, 1985), (with Alfred Hower) Empire in Transition: The Portuguese World in The Time of Camões (UFlorida Press, 1985), (with A. Hower and C. Perrone) Crônicas Brasileiras: Nova Fase (UFlorida Press, 1994). He has published articles on Portuguese language and on Luso-Brazilian literatures, Spanish Golden Age, and on departmental management and administration in a number of journals. He is a reviewer for World Literture Today, Hispania, and, from 1982-1994, for The Handbook of Latin American Studies (Library of Congress). He is also a review editor for the Indiana Journal of Hispanic Literature and for Taíra: Revue du centre de recherches et détudes lusophones et intertropicales (University of Grenoble). He is a member of the USF team in the NEH-MLA National Base-line Study of Secondary School Teacher Training Programs and is a member of the Studys national board of editors. During the academic year 1994-1995 Dr. Preto-Rodas was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the University Of Grenoble (Stendhal) where he taught comparative literature. He is currently organizing a month-long program on French Culture and History to be delivered in Paris in June as part of the USF Summer Study-Travel in France. |
